Why did the wild boar seems to be alive after seemingly fatal shot?

At times on some hits, the hog will kick and thrash around as if he were about to run off if he could get to his feet. All shots do not produce instant death, especially when dealing with a hog.That is just the nature of hogs and something that happens on occasion.
