Help me please Im buying my first car?

you can usually get a mechanic to do a decent inspection for about 100 bucks, I suggest you look on this website first www.carcomplaints.com and see if the cars you found are anywhere on this list of worst cars to own. And if you would like some free information on how to buy a car, what to look for and what to look out for, try www.samarins.com there is also a section on used car reviews that may be helpful. After many years of being around cars, I think I found a way to at least figure out if a car is even worth taking to a mechanic. I do a cold start test drive , this is where the vehicle has sat at least overnight without being driven. A lot of worn out abused cars are hard to start when cold, and the transmission may not even move the car for the first 5 to 15 minutes. And some people will try to hide this, by warming up the car thourougly early in the morning. I ask people not to start the car. If they do anyway I beileive they are trying to hide something and leave and go home. If the oil in the engine is cold when I get there in the morning, I start it up, listen to the motor it should start easily, and smooth into a high idle in 5 to 10 seconds. I give it a minute or two to warm up and get the oil circulating, and drive it like I stole it. any good used car that will run good and get up to 55 easily in the first 5 to 7 minutes when cold may not be in too bad of shape. And plan on spending 40 minutes to an hour test driving it. If the people who own it will not let you test drive, or go to a mechanic, then walk away and keep looking.Patience is the key to finding a jewel in a sea of worn out cars, so get used to walking away from crap, there are lots of broken worn out cars for sale.
